The Brief

This was a competition brief for 3rd-year university students, where the task was to design a character for KENJI's upcoming product range (2021). The designs needed to be in three different layouts and reflect modern Asian culture with a British twist while appealing to the target audience of KENJI. The winners of the competition would have their designs printed on KENJI products and sold all around the UK.

(Being a 1st year at that time, I ended up as one of the 3 winners).

Process

I wanted to illustrate an animal native to Asia, yet one that was still recognisable and familiar to the British audience. It was also important to strike a balance between the tastes of the younger and older audiences of KENJI.

Solution

The Red Panda design ended up ticking both the native Asian and British familiarity checkboxes, while it's slightly mature colour palette left room for various age groups to enjoy the designs.
